Chinese Ambassador to Cairo, Liao Liqiang, stated that the Chinese government's special envoy to the Middle East, Zhai Jun, will arrive in Cairo this evening after a Gulf tour to discuss de-escalation in the region.
The ambassador explained that the envoy is coming to Egypt after visiting Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait, and also held a telephone conversation with the Qatari Foreign Minister.
The ambassador conveyed his country's deep concern regarding the escalation in the region, and said that the Chinese envoy emphasized Beijing's position calling for respect for the sovereignty of Gulf territories and the protection of innocent civilians. He stressed that the unrest serves no one and that a ceasefire is the only way out of the crisis.
The ambassador added that Egypt and China are two major countries that reject the use of military force and advocate diplomacy and dialogue.
