The Chinese company CRRC, the largest train manufacturer in China, has successfully operationalized its medium-speed high-power ammonia-fuelled engine in Dalian, Liaoning Province, in northeastern China.

This represents a significant technological breakthrough for China in related key technologies.

In a statement released on Friday, as reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the ammonia-powered engine was developed independently by CRRC.

It boasts low carbon emissions, high safety standards, and excellent interchangeability. This engine is based on the company's self-developed diesel engine technology and is an environmentally friendly innovation capable of reducing carbon emissions by up to 80%.

It can produce up to 208 kilowatts of power from a single cylinder, with ammonia accounting for 85% of its energy source.

CRRC's ammonia-powered engine coordinates the entire industry chain of ammonia engines, complete machinery, and application scenarios.

In terms of power levels, economic efficiency, emissions, technology, and reliability, it ranks at an advanced level both domestically and internationally.

According to Lin Tsung Tseng, an executive at CRRC Dalian, the successful operation of this engine accelerates the development of carbon-free engines in China.

He added that China's technological prowess in ammonia-powered ships now stands on par with globally renowned companies.

This achievement underscores China's commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies, with the potential to revolutionize the transportation industry by reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy efficiency.

It also highlights China's determination to lead in emerging green technologies, showcasing its competitiveness on the global stage.
