The Chinese representative to the United Nations has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent the conflict from expanding, according to Sky News.

In a related development, the UN Security Council adopted a draft resolution on Wednesday, sponsored by Gulf states and Jordan, which condemns Iranian attacks on Gulf nations and Jordan and demands their immediate end.

Resolution 2817 was adopted with a 13-vote majority. While China and Russia abstained from the vote, no member state voted against it.

The Security Council condemned Iran’s strikes on residential areas and civilian infrastructure in the Gulf and Jordan, citing the resulting casualties and damage. The Council characterized these actions as a violation of international law and a threat to global peace.

Furthermore, the resolution demands an "immediate halt" to Iranian attacks in the region. It also condemns "any act or threat" by Iran intended to close, obstruct, or interfere in any way with international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
