A Chinese envoy on Wednesday warned against military adventurism against Iran, urging all parties to abide by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs, CGTN reported.

The current situation in Iran has drawn widespread attention. As the shadow of war looms large, tensions are rising in the Middle East, said Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Xinhua reported.

"The use of force cannot solve problems. Any acts of military adventurism will only push the region into an abyss of unpredictability," he told an open debate of the Security Council on the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.

China hopes that the United States and other relevant parties will heed the call of the international community and regional countries, do more things that are conducive to peace and stability in the Middle East, and avoid exacerbating tensions and adding fuel to the fire," he said.

Iran is an independent sovereign state, and its affairs should be decided independently by the Iranian people themselves. China hopes to see and supports stability in Iran, and supports upholding its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, he said.

"We call on all parties to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs, and reject the use or threat of force in international relations," said Fu.

The Middle East belongs to the people in the region. It is not a wrestling ground for major power rivalry, nor should it become a victim of geopolitical contests by countries outside the region, said Fu.

China stands ready to work with the international community to respect the choices independently made by the peoples in the region, take the legitimate concerns of regional countries seriously, and jointly play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, he said.
