Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, has called for a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the expedited implementation of a two-state solution to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

During a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York, Wang expressed his support for the UN's leadership role in resolving this longstanding conflict, as reported by China's "CGTN" network.

Currently visiting the United States, Wang is expected to chair a high-level United Nations Security Council meeting on the Palestinian-Israeli issue, coinciding with China's rotational presidency of the Council this month.

He emphasized that China has maintained close communications with Arab countries and other relevant parties.

According to Wang, Security Council Resolution 2712, which calls for an urgent and extended humanitarian truce and the opening of corridors in Gaza, is a crucial first step towards achieving a ceasefire.

This resolution was adopted earlier this month.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reaffirmed China's stance on the resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The Chinese diplomat outlined three key points: first, preventing the reignition of war and achieving a full ceasefire to avoid further humanitarian disasters and the release of detainees; second, ensuring unimpeded access to humanitarian supplies in Gaza; and third, resuming efforts towards a two-state solution at the earliest.

Guterres lauded China's "constructive role" as the rotating president of the Security Council, expressing concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

He highlighted the unprecedented and unacceptable civilian losses, particularly among children in the region, and called for increased humanitarian aid and streamlined procedures for expediting assistance.
