Beijing is set to host the world’s first Global Humanoid Robot Games this August, marking a historic milestone in robotics and artificial intelligence.
The event will be the most comprehensive international competition of its kind, putting humanoid robots to the test in a range of athletic and interactive challenges designed to measure both intelligence and physical ability.
According to reports published Thursday in Western media, the capital of China will serve as the stage for this unprecedented event, which aims to evaluate the overall capabilities and technological integration of humanoid robots.
Jiang Guangzhi, head of Beijing’s Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, stated that the competition will feature a variety of main and secondary events.
The main events will include 19 contests divided into three categories, focusing on mobility, coordination, and teamwork.
These will range from classic track and field races such as the 100m, 400m, and 1500m sprints to 100m relays and hurdle races. Field events like standing long jump and standing high jump will also be featured, alongside floor gymnastics and football matches in formats of 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5.
Guangzhi highlighted that these contests are specifically designed to assess the humanoid robots’ movement skills, strategic cooperation, and ability to perform in dynamic environments.
In addition to the main events, the secondary segment of the Games will showcase non-humanoid robots in entertaining and interactive competitions.
These include matches in badminton, basketball, and table tennis, where human attendees will also have the opportunity to engage directly with the robotic competitors.
