Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Beijing will continue discussions with the United States on issues related to strategic perceptions, national security, and economic activities.
In a statement released on Sunday, reported by the English-language China Global Television Network (CGTN), the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that Taiwan is the first red line that must not be crossed. It urged the U.S. to adhere to the "One China" principle, the provisions of the three joint communiqués between the two countries, and to fulfill its commitments not to support Taiwan's independence.
The statement also called on Washington to stop the wrongful practice of turning economic and trade issues into political and security concerns.
This statement comes ahead of the upcoming visit of U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to China from August 27 to 29, at the invitation of Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission. The Chinese and American sides are expected to hold a new round of strategic communications during this visit.
