China has unveiled plans to establish an international pharmaceutical innovation hub in its southern suburbs, aiming to attract global talent in the fields of medicine and health.
According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the hub will be located in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as "Beijing E-Town."
The planned site will cover an area of 5.8 square kilometers and host a range of international company headquarters, focusing on world-class specialized hospitals and medical industries.
Kong Li, Director of the Beijing E-Town Management Committee, stated that the hub will target cutting-edge health sectors such as synthetic biology, next-generation high-throughput sequencing technology, and therapeutic gene-editing technology.
The goal is to attract strategic scientists, global leaders, and innovative science and technology teams worldwide.
Kong emphasized that the hub will foster the integration of biotechnology and information technology, enhancing research and development in new medicines through the computational power of artificial intelligence.
Recently, Beijing E-Town released its first set of AI application scenarios, covering ten areas including pharmaceuticals, health, and drug research and development.
