China has expressed strong disapproval of new US sanctions imposed on Chinese companies linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce criticized the sanctions, stating that China is "dissatisfied" and "strongly opposes" these measures.
A ministry spokesperson urged the US to immediately halt what it described as erroneous practices and warned that China would take necessary steps to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
On Friday, Washington announced a new round of sanctions targeting 400 entities and individuals in Russia and beyond, including several Chinese firms.
These sanctions are aimed at companies in China that are allegedly involved in shipping precision electronics and machinery tools to Russia, according to a US State Department statement.
The US Department of the Treasury stated that the sanctions focus on individuals and companies both inside and outside Russia whose products and services help Russia support its war efforts and evade sanctions.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce denounced the sanctions as "typical unilateral measures" that disrupt international trade rules and norms, hinder normal economic and trade exchanges, and threaten the security and stability of global supply chains.
The US has repeatedly warned China regarding its support for the Russian defense industry.
Beijing has denied allegations of supporting Russia's war efforts, asserting that its position is "open and above reproach," while accusing the West of fueling the conflict by supplying weapons to Ukraine.
