The Chinese Red Cross is set to provide $200,000 in emergency humanitarian aid to the Moroccan Red Crescent following the devastating earthquake that struck the country, according to official Chinese media reports.
China Daily reported that the Chinese Red Cross stated the donations would be used to assist Morocco in carrying out disaster relief and rescue efforts.
Chinese state media noted that President Xi Jinping had conveyed his condolences to Morocco's King Mohammed VI, saying in his message, "He felt shocked when he learned of the violent earthquake that caused severe loss of life and property."
China Central Television (CCTV), a state-run television station, reported that Chinese medical workers in Morocco have been actively assisting victims, including during the aftershocks that followed the earthquake.
The central Moroccan city of Beni Mellal was closest to the earthquake's epicenter and has been a focal point for the Chinese medical team's assistance.
A video circulated by Chinese state media depicted a Chinese doctor delivering a baby immediately after the earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 6.8 and resulted in the tragic loss of over 2,100 lives.
