Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China's readiness to continue working with Russia within the framework of the UN Security Council.
He emphasized maintaining timely communication on key issues and exerting joint efforts to help calm the situation in the Middle East, safeguard regional peace and stability, and uphold global collective security.
According to the Chinese news agency, Xinhua, Wang’s remarks came during a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Wang stated that as permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia must uphold integrity and justice on principled issues, adopt an objective and balanced approach, and strive to gain further understanding and support from the international community.
Highlighting China's long-standing advocacy for settling international and regional hotspots through dialogue and negotiation, the Chinese Foreign Minister noted that the situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate, with hostilities escalating.
He added that the fundamental solution to ensuring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz lies in achieving an early ceasefire and ending the war.
For his part, Lavrov stated that Russia is deeply concerned about the continued escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
