China’s "Anhui" ship recently completed its maiden trial voyage in Hefei, Anhui Province, marking a world first as the only ship powered entirely by pure ammonia fuel.

Developed independently through Chinese innovation, the vessel represents a major step forward in green maritime technology and offers a promising low-carbon travel solution for the global shipping industry.

The "Anhui" can carry up to 50 tons of cargo at full capacity and reaches a maximum speed of 10 knots per hour. It is equipped with an advanced energy system.

During sea trials, the vessel demonstrated stable ammonia combustion while nearly eliminating carbon dioxide emissions. It also successfully controlled the release of other harmful pollutants, effectively meeting environmental protection targets.

This achievement is the result of more than two years of continuous effort. Chinese engineers overcame several technical challenges, including ammonia ignition, maintaining combustion stability, and ensuring the safe handling of the fuel. These breakthroughs pave the way for the broader application of this innovative green energy in practical, everyday use.

As China continues to pursue its goals of carbon neutrality and emission reduction amid global climate challenges, the inaugural voyage of "Anhui" marks a significant milestone in the country’s green technology journey. It also sends a positive signal to the international community about advancing green energy exploration and tackling climate change.
