China has inaugurated its first-ever digital resource center dedicated to Tibetan medicine and astrology in the southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region.

The center, established by the Tibetan Traditional Medicine Hospital in Lhasa, the region's capital, houses 10 extensive databases.

These include Tibetan medical materials, literature, astrology resources, and high-resolution scanned copies of rare Tibetan medical and astrological texts dating back to the 8th century.

The digitization efforts began in 2006, involving over 40 researchers who have been diligently collecting and preserving valuable literature.

The project is not limited to the Tibet Autonomous Region but extends to neighboring provinces such as Qinghai, Gansu, Yunnan, Sichuan, Inner Mongolia, and Liaoning.

Furthermore, the team has sourced documents internationally, acquiring collections from Mongolia, the United States, and France.

This center marks a significant step in preserving Tibet's rich cultural heritage, ensuring these ancient and invaluable resources are accessible to scholars, researchers, and future generations.

By leveraging modern technology, China aims to safeguard the knowledge and traditions of Tibetan medicine and astrology, which have been integral to Tibetan culture for centuries.
