In a sharp response to Canada’s recent sanctions over alleged human rights violations in Xinjiang and Tibet, China has imposed countermeasures targeting two Canadian organizations and 20 individuals, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Saturday.
The sanctioned entities include the Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project and the Canada-Tibet Committee, alongside their personnel.
The measures freeze all assets of the affected groups within China and prohibit their employees from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Moreover, the sanctions bar Chinese entities and individuals from engaging in any transactions or collaboration with the targeted organizations.
This move follows Canada’s December 10 sanctions against eight Chinese officials accused of severe human rights abuses. China’s retaliatory actions underline escalating tensions in Sino-Canadian relations.
