China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in Cairo early next week for a three-day visit that includes talks with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and other senior officials.
Wang will begin a three-day visit to Cairo from Saturday to carry out a comprehensive review on the Ethiopian dam issue, according to international reports.
The international reports revealed that Wang would exchange in-depth viewpoints on major regional issues, as well as continued means to achieve consensus between Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on pushing Egyptian-Chinese mutual cooperation as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
During his visit, he will also inaugurate infra projects constructed by Chinese companies, which have a major role in the development of Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.
Wang’s visit comes two weeks after Ethiopia informed Egypt and Sudan it began the second phase of filling GERD.
In April, Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia held a fresh round of diplomatic talks to resolve the issue of the dam that began in early May 2019.
Later, Egypt and Sudan said that "these recent talks revealed the Ethiopian recklessness and foiling of any chance at peaceful settlement of the conflict by refusing international mediation."
