China’s Meteorological Administration announced that summer 2025 was officially the hottest on record since the country began keeping weather data.
According to a statement shared on social media and reported by Channel News Asia, large parts of China endured extreme heat waves between June and August 2025.
In Beijing, temperatures neared 40°C in June, while the national average temperature for the summer reached 22.31°C, the highest ever recorded.
Experts attribute the unprecedented heat to climate change, which continues to intensify global weather extremes.
China remains the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide, though it has pledged to cut emissions by the end of this decade and achieve net zero by 2060.
