China has issued a strong condemnation of the United States following its military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, warning that the situation in the Middle East risks spiraling out of control.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that Beijing believes the US attack has undermined its international credibility and could dangerously escalate regional tensions.
The criticism comes in the wake of a United Nations Security Council meeting held on Sunday to discuss the repercussions of the coordinated US and Israeli military campaign targeting Iran's nuclear infrastructure—reportedly the largest Western military operation against Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. During the session, China, Russia, and Pakistan jointly proposed a resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire across the region.
China's envoy to the UN, Fu Cong, urged all parties to avoid rushing into further military action and called for restraint to prevent the conflict from expanding. He specifically urged Israel to halt hostilities immediately, warning that further escalation could ignite a broader war.
Fu stated that while Iran suffered damage, the credibility of the United States as both a sovereign actor and an international negotiating partner had been significantly weakened.
Chinese media outlets echoed this sentiment. An editorial published in the state-run Global Times late on Sunday described the American strikes as highly provocative and reckless. The opinion piece argued that foreign military intervention only deepens regional instability and fuels long-term animosity, rather than delivering peace.
In a separate development, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun denounced the attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling them a severe violation of the UN Charter. During a regular press briefing on Monday, Guo emphasized that China is committed to working constructively with the international community to promote peace and prevent further deterioration in the region.
Guo also confirmed that all Chinese nationals wishing to leave Iran had been safely evacuated. A total of 3,125 Chinese citizens were transported to safe zones through a coordinated operation involving the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese Embassy in Tehran, and other government authorities.
Additionally, over 500 Chinese citizens were evacuated from Israel as part of a separate emergency response facilitated by the Chinese Embassy in Tel Aviv.
