On Wednesday, the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa accused Canada of violating United Nations Charter principles and threatening peace in the South China Sea by deploying warships to the region.
The embassy affirmed that Beijing would respond firmly to such actions.
A representative of the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa informed the Russian news agency Novosti that Canada is violating the principles of the United Nations Charter and threatening peace in the South China Sea by sending warships to the area.
The representative added that Canada has repeatedly sent warships and helicopters to demonstrate its power in the South China Sea under the pretext of protecting freedom of navigation and overflight.
This constitutes a serious violation of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and endangers regional stability and security.
The embassy stressed that the South China Sea is a shared space for regional countries, and Beijing intends to resolve disputes and conflicts through negotiations and consultations directly with the concerned countries.
The Chinese Embassy urged Canada to sincerely respect China's territorial sovereignty, as well as maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea, and to cease stirring up trouble and provoking confrontation.
