Chile is preparing to host a major UNESCO summit focused on strengthening and expanding the global teaching workforce, set to take place in Santiago from 28 to 29 August.
Organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the event will call for sustained support for teachers and seek to elevate the teaching profession amid growing economic and sociopolitical challenges, as reported by El Maipo, a partner of TV BRICS.
Coinciding with the summit will be a high-level steering committee meeting on Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which aims to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all by 2030.
According to the report, the discussions come at a timely moment, as recent UNESCO data highlights the growing opportunity to expand the global teaching workforce, with an estimated 44 million additional teachers needed over the next five years to meet primary and secondary education goals.
