Chain Collision in California leaves 3 Dead, 5 Injured

At least three people were killed and five others injured early Monday in a chain collision between several vehicles on a highway in Sunnyvale, California, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident involving six vehicles occurred shortly after midnight.

Officials said as three drivers exited their cars, another car collided with them, prompting two cars to cross over the middle barrier into the southern lanes, according to Xinhua.

Five wounded people were taken to a local hospital. The incident is being investigated and the identities of the victims have not yet been revealed.

The northbound and southbound lanes have reopened after being closed for about nine hours, according to the California Department of Transportation.
