Canada's Immigration Minister Marc Miller has expressed concerns about the integrity of the educational system that benefits hundreds of thousands of foreign students.

He highlighted not only the added pressure these students place on the housing crisis but also the need for safeguarding the system's credibility.

In an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Miller stated that Canada is on track to welcome 900,000 foreign students this year, an unprecedented number in the country's history, and roughly three times the amount that entered the country a decade ago.

Miller emphasized that the higher education system that attracts foreign students to Canada is highly profitable, but it also comes with negative consequences and instances of fraud within the system. Some individuals exploit what is seen as a "back door entry to Canada.

He mentioned that both private and public universities generate annual revenues ranging from 20 to 30 billion Canadian dollars (about 14.7 to 22.1 billion US dollars), paid by those who come to study from abroad.
