Premier League in England has been suspended until at least April 3 due to coronavirus outbreak.

All football events in the European country, including the Premier League games, EFL fixtures and matches in the FA Women's Super League and Women's Championship have been postponed.

In a statement, the Premier League said that the matches would be resumed on April 4.

"Following a meeting of Shareholders today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time," the statement read.

The suspension comes on a day of widespread sporting postponements worldwide.

On his part, the Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said that he wishes speedy recoveries to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea's player Callum Hudson-Odoi, who tested positive for the epidemic virus.

"Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19," Masters said.

"In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA, and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority, " he added.

"Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League's aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so," he concluded.
