The former Prime Minister also asserted that he was “sad to be giving up the best job in the world,” shortly he thanked the British people, alongside his wife, National Health Service, and armed forces.
“Above all, I want to thank you, the British public, for the immense privilege that you have given me."
The talks between the Conservative Party members are still active for choosing a new leader for the party and a new Prime Minister.
Some reports revealed that one of the candidates for the position is Johnson's deputy Dominic Raab.
On the other hand, Russia reacted to the news as Johnson was one of the people who supported the sanctions against Russia.
The Spokesperson of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov reacted telling reporters on Thursday that the ongoing political crisis in the UK was not a priority for Russia and that "as for Mr. Johnson himself, he doesn't like us very much, we don't like him either."
