US State Department announced on Wednesday, that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Ataf, in Washington.
"The relationship between Algeria and the United States dates back to many years since 1795, and it has grown stronger in recent years," Blinken said, during the meeting.
"There are many security and economic ties that we can further strengthen, and there are many common interests, especially when it comes to dealing with terrorism, as well as promoting peace and security in the broad region, especially in the Sahel region," he added.
Moreover, US Secretary of State expressed his aspiration for Algeria's ascension to the United Nations Security Council next year.
