Under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Bibliotheca Alexandrina has officially launched applications for the second edition of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award 2026, focusing on “Applications of Quantum Intelligence for Building a Sustainable Knowledge Society and Enhancing Human Well-Being.”

The announcement marks the beginning of the application period, which opened in May 2026 and will continue until August 31, with the winner scheduled to be revealed in October 2026.

Professor Ahmed A. Zayed said the award’s new theme reflects a future-oriented vision centered on supporting advanced scientific research and emerging technologies capable of driving innovation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence applications.

According to Zayed, the award aims to encourage the use of quantum intelligence and next-generation quantum computing technologies to develop solutions for some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, healthcare development, education quality, sustainable energy, and broader human well-being.

He explained that the award theme was selected by the award’s Board of Trustees, which includes internationally recognized scholars and experts who identified quantum intelligence as one of the most influential scientific fields shaping the future of global innovation.

The award carries a financial prize of one million Egyptian pounds in addition to a gold medal and an official certificate of excellence.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award forms part of the library’s broader mission to promote knowledge, creativity, intercultural dialogue, and scientific advancement. The initiative supports projects and ideas that contribute to improving humanity through science, technology, literature, arts, and the humanities.

The first edition of the award achieved broad international recognition under the theme “Green Technology Applications for Achieving Well-Being and Happiness for Humanity.” The inaugural edition honored Professor Hassan Shafik Abdullah, a British scientist of Egyptian origin recognized for his work in green technology and sustainable smart cities, alongside Filipino scientist Glenn Banaguas for his contributions to climate resilience and sustainable energy solutions for vulnerable communities.

The previous award ceremony attracted senior Egyptian officials, diplomats, academics, intellectuals, and international guests, reinforcing the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s role as a global platform for knowledge exchange and scientific innovation.

According to the award regulations, the honor may be granted to either an individual or an institution that has made exceptional scientific, intellectual, or humanitarian contributions benefiting humanity. Organizers stressed that the judging process follows strict standards of transparency, integrity, and independence.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina said full details regarding nominations, eligibility requirements, and application procedures will be available through its official website, inviting researchers, innovators, universities, and institutions worldwide to participate in the 2026 edition.
