US actor Ben Affleck is set to undergo his first experience in the fantasy realm as a director.

He is set to direct a live-action film for Disney that is based on the bestselling fantasy book series "Keeper of the Lost Cities" by Shannon Messenger.

Affleck will also write the script along with Kate Gritmon.

The book series has eight installments, with a ninth on the way. It has sold more than 2.5 million copies.

The plot revolves around a telepathic 12-year-old Sophie who must figure out why she is the key to her brand-new world before the wrong person finds the answer first. When she finally discovers where her secret telepathic ability comes from, she learns she’s actually not human but is from another world.

Affleck, who directed 2013 best picture winner Argo, is also set to direct the making of "Chinatown" movie for Paramount.

He is scheduled to appear in the upcoming "The Flash" movie, reprising his role as Batman, as well as in Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel", and Adrian Lyne's "Deep Water".

Affleck was last seen onscreen in the personal sports drama "The Way Back", which debuted just as the coronavirus pandemic closed theaters worldwide in March.
