Banking sources said that there are instructions during the Eid Al-Fitr to feed cash into automatic teller machines (ATMs) operating in the local market to meet the citizens' needs especially on holidays and vacations.

The ATM machines are feed periodically according to instructions from the Central Bank of Egypt in coordination with the banks operating in the local market, taking into account the population density of the geographical areas where the ATMs are located.

Sources added that the withdrawal of cash from the ATMs is carried out according to a specific technological mechanism that takes into account currency denominations, and is recharged quickly and periodically, especially during holidays.

The Central Bank of Egypt decided to suspend work in all banks operating in Egypt from Wednesday, May 12, until Sunday, May 16, and is scheduled to resume work on Monday, May 17.

It is noteworthy that and an Egyptian-American engineer Mohamed Atalla invented the first hardware security module (HSM), dubbed the "Atalla Box", a security system which encrypted PIN and ATM messages, and protected offline devices with an un-guessable PIN-generating key.
