The death toll from flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in Bangladesh has risen to 54, while one person is missing, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said on Friday.
The ministry added - in a statement carried by the Bangladeshi Channel 24 in its English-language bulletin - that at least 5,464,167 people have been affected by floods in 11 districts of the country, noting that 469,687 people have taken refuge in 3,269 shelters in flood-affected areas.
The ministry indicated that 567 medical teams are working to provide treatment to the injured in the affected areas.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned that floods may continue if the monsoon rains continue to fall at this intensity in the coming days.
