The bald eagle, a symbol of American strength and freedom for over 240 years, has received official recognition as the national bird of the United States.
On Tuesday, President Joe Biden signed legislation sent by Congress, amending US law to formally designate the bald eagle as the country's national bird.
Known for its striking appearance—white head, yellow beak, and brown body—the bald eagle has long been a cultural and patriotic emblem in the US.
Since 1782, the bald eagle has graced the "Great Seal" of the United States, a design used on official government documents. The seal also features an olive branch, arrows, a shield resembling the American flag, a motto, and a constellation of stars.
In the same year, Congress chose the bald eagle as a national symbol, incorporating its image into official documents, the presidential flag, military insignias, and US currency.
