Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated yesterday, Saturday, in an interview with the American TV channel Fox News, his country is prepared to lay down its arms and ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Yes, we are ready. I have spoken about this openly many times. We are ready to agree on a ceasefire today,” Aliyev stated. “We publicly said we will take revenge, but on the battlefield. We do not kill civilians. We do not target religious sites.”

“But at the same time, Armenia, its Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan must say that they are committed to the basic principles developed by the United States, Russia, and France,” Aliyev stressed “Two days ago, the Prime Minister of Armenia said that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has no diplomatic solution.”

Being asked about the “regional powers,” Aliyev stressed that all the regional countries should stay away from the matter.

“Our position is that all the regional countries should stay away from direct involvement in the conflict,” he said. "We are completely against the ‘internationalization’ of the conflict.”

He also denied using ‘mercenaries’ confirming it’s all “fake news”.

“We don’t need any mercenaries," he mentioned. "It’s all fake news aimed at damaging the image of the country and diminishing the bravery of the soldiers on the battlefield.”

The Azerbaijani president seemed willing to accept considerable assistance in reaching a truce.

“Any motivation in order to put an end to hostility is supported by us,” the Azerbaijani president confirmed. “A very straightforward position by President Trump is supported by me as well as the people of Azerbaijan.”
