According to Axios reporter Ravid, citing an American official, the recent U.S. airstrikes on Yemen are not a one-off but mark the beginning of a sustained series of strikes against the Houthi rebels. The attacks, which started on Saturday, could potentially extend over days or even weeks.
In his report on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter), Ravid stated, "A U.S. official told me that the strikes on Saturday were not a singular event but the start of a series of ongoing American strikes against the Houthis, expected to continue for days or possibly weeks."
Earlier on Saturday evening, President Donald Trump announced that he had ordered the U.S. military to carry out "decisive and powerful" military operations against the Houthi group in Yemen.
President Trump, in an official statement, accused the Houthi rebels of carrying out "attacks and piracy operations against U.S. ships and aircraft in the region," describing the response of his predecessor Joe Biden's administration to the Houthi threats as "pathetically weak," which allowed the Houthis to continue their assaults unchecked.
Trump further stated that "the Houthis have paralyzed shipping movements in one of the world's most crucial maritime passages, negatively affecting international trade and violating the principle of free navigation upon which global economies depend." He emphasized that the United States would not tolerate these attacks and would use "overwhelming and lethal force to achieve its objectives."
