The American news website Axios, citing regional officials, reported that Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey are exerting efforts to organize a meeting between U.S. Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior Iranian officials in Ankara in the coming days.
The platform quoted an official from one of these countries saying: "Things are moving. We are doing our best." The meeting is expected to take place later this week.
According to Axios, Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar hope that consultations between the U.S. and Iran will help prevent the outbreak of a regional war.
A second U.S. official confirmed that a meeting between the United States and Iran might be held this week in Turkey.
The three countries, which worked with the Trump administration on the Gaza ceasefire deal, aim for these U.S.-Iranian negotiations to avert a regional conflict.
