Austria's imports of Russian gas hiked to 71% last December from 41% in November.
Based on reports, the share of gas supplies from Russia in imports in December amounted to 71%, and imports from "other sources" stood at 29%.
At the end of 2022, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and his cabinet ministers repeatedly stated that Russian gas supplies to the republic had fallen to nearly 20%.
The ministry explained that the data on Russian gas supplies to the republic falls within the “range of fluctuations,” as gas market participants are not required to inform E-Control of the exact source of origin of imported gas.
Earlier, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner indicated that Austria will not train Ukrainian soldiers to operate German-made Leopard 2 tanks.
The top defense official reiterated Vienna’s refusal to provide training to Ukrainian troops. Citing Austria’s constitutional neutrality, she called the issue of support for Ukraine "a sovereign decision of each state within the framework of its own laws."
