Authorities in the Australian state of New South Wales on Tuesday ordered the evacuation of more than 40,000 people from their homes, while warnings of a possible evacuation of 300,000 others were issued due to the worst floods in decades.
The authorities warned citizens not to flee to the roofs due to the high water levels, noting that more than 50 people were rescued after they were stuck on a bridge as the roads leading to it were flooded.
The floods, moving from the state of "Queensland" to "New South Wales", are one of the worst environmental disasters, which has so far killed nine people.
