AUC To Hold 28th NileTESOL Conference 2024

The American University in Cairo (AUC) will host the 28th annual NileTESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) conference, “Engaging and Empowering Learners and Teachers: Methods, Strategies, and Tools.” The event is organized by AUC’s School of Continuing Education and the NileTESOL board.

The conference will feature plenaries, sessions, presentations, workshops, panel discussions, talks and poster sessions. Topics will focus on teacher training, motivation, professional development, program administration, learning technologies, collaborative learning, corpus studies, research development and assessment.

Plenary sessions will discuss bringing sustainability into the ELT classroom; harnessing curiosity in the language classroom; the future of English; the future of technology in teaching; the art of storytelling and the Ignition of the Imagination; and how a student-centered classroom benefits students and teachers.

Other topics include student empowerment in evaluation; strategies for engaging all learners; emotional intelligence as a key player in the educational landscape; Artificial Intelligence as a powering tool for teachers and researchers; empowering teachers with Artificial Intelligence Tools; challenges and opportunities in online learning; the pros and cons of using Artificial Intelligence in the classroom; engaging and empowering teen learners through drama and evaluating Egyptian English curricula in light of 21st century skills.

Plenary and featured speakers are Michael Connolly, director of English programmes at the British Council, based in London; Sophia Hawthorn, commissioning editor at York Press Ltd.; Alex Warren, DELTA-trained teacher trainer; Theresa North, the English language fellow in Cairo with the US Department of State’s English Language Fellow Program; and Ghada Elshimi, dean of undergraduate studies and Academy of Liberal Arts (ALA) at AUC.
