A small aircraft crashed in a forested area of Jalisco state, western Mexico, on Sunday, leaving at least seven people dead, local authorities confirmed.
The Civil Defense agency reported that the plane, a Cessna 207, was coming from Parota, a town in neighboring Michoacán state, when it encountered difficulties and crashed in a rugged area.
The authorities posted images of the crash site on the social media platform X. According to police, who were the first to arrive, the initial toll reported seven fatalities, though the identities of the victims have yet to be confirmed.
The crash occurred near Mazamitla, a popular tourist destination in the region. Civil Defense teams are working to extinguish a fire that erupted on the plane and are taking safety measures to prevent further damage.
A final death toll will be released once search operations are concluded, according to officials.
