The local authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) said at least 36 people were killed in a knife attack that took place during the night in North Kivu province, in the east of the country.
The Congolese local authority stated - according to Radio France Internationale today, Thursday, that the attackers were members of the Allied Democratic Forces (a Ugandan armed group that has been active in eastern Congo for decades).
It added that the attack targeted Mukundi village, about 30 km south of the city of Beni in the province of North Kivu, which suffers from rebellious movements and has been under the army's administration since 2021 in an attempt to restore order.
