A devastating fire engulfed an amusement park in Gujarat state, western India, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 20 lives, as confirmed by local authorities.

The blaze erupted within the premises of the park situated in the city of Rajkot, Gujarat. Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava affirmed that the fire has been contained, while rescue efforts continue, with 20 fatalities reported thus far.

Typically bustling with families and children enjoying the school summer break, the park witnessed a horrific turn of events over the weekend.

The footage depicts firefighters meticulously clearing debris amidst the aftermath, particularly around collapsed tin roof structures utilized for various recreational activities such as bowling, go-karting, and trampolining.

The privately-owned amusement park, under the ownership of Yuvraj Singh Solanki, now faces scrutiny, with authorities intending to file negligence charges against him.

"We will be registering an offense for negligence and the deaths that have occurred. Further investigation will take place once we complete the rescue operation," he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound distress, extending condolences to the affected families and pledging prayers for the injured.

Fires, unfortunately, remain a prevalent hazard in India, where lax adherence to building regulations and safety protocols persists among builders and residents alike.
