On Tuesday, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit Gansu province, northwest China, leaving behind at least 116 deaths, state media reported.

Massive search and rescue operations are conducted in the region and neighboring Qinghai.

State media added that more than 500 people were at least injured, alongside the destruction of homes, roads, and various service buildings which led to an outage in power and communications.

Aid started to be sent to the disaster areas like tents upon the orders of China's Leader Xi Jinping who also called for deep search and rescue efforts to save more lives.

The authorities deployed at least 4000 firefighters, soldiers, and police officers for the rescue effort.
