Former Egypt assistant coach Roger de Sa has asserted that Carlos Queiroz is in talks for a potential return to take over the national team.

The EFA had sacked Carlos Queiroz after failing to secure qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar back in March.

Ehab Galal was announced as Egypt’s new head coach hours later and his opening games were in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

However, they fell to an embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia in a game that saw Egypt create very few chances.

Five days later, they suffered another humiliating 4-1 defeat to Son Heung-min’s South Korea in a friendly match to mark Galal’s second defeat.

Following Galal’s departure, the EFA revealed they will be hiring a foreign coach to take charge of the national team with Carlos Queiroz being the frontrunner for the role.

Roger de Sa, who was Queiroz’s assistant during his Egypt tenure, has now confirmed that talks to rehire the Portuguese manager are in progress but a final decision is still pending.

“Negotiations [with the EFA] are already underway,” Roger de Sa told ON Time Sports.

“He [Queiroz] told me he hasn’t made a decision yet and would not talk about it until Monday. I don’t know what his decision will be, but we always talk to each other.”

“Returning to coach Egypt is not an issue for him, but of course, the final decision is in his hands.
