Armed Person Attempts Stabbing Malian Interim President

On Tuesday, an armed man attempted to stab Mali's Interim President Colonel Assimi Goita.

The incident took place during the president's participation in Feast Prayer at a mosque in Bamako, and it was performed by two persons, one of them carried a knife. Shortly, the president was saved by security forces.

AFP journalist who witnessed the accident reported that there is some blood at the scene without identifying who was injured.

However, Goita appeared on the state-owned platform ORTM after the attack saying that he is "very well."  Next, he commented: "That's part of being a leader, there are always malcontents."

Security forces succeeded in capturing one of the attackers and the process of the investigation started according to the Malian Presidency.
