Arab Parliament Calls US Embassies in Arab States to Respect Cultural Particularities

The Arab Parliament (AP) called on the Embassies of the United States in the Arab States to respect the cultural specificities of Arab societies without prejudice to their religious values ​​and societal constants, at a time when the Arab States respect and do not interfere with cultural differences of other societies.

This statement followed many U.S. Embassies in some Arab countries raised the rainbow flags and published leaflets in support of homosexuality. The AP considered that such unacceptable conduct contradicts the norms and mores of diplomatic relations between States which are based on respect for and non-abuse or infringement of States’ religious and societal values.

In its statement, theArab Parliament stressed that the respect for the cultural particularities and societal values ​​in the Arab States is not contrary to the principle of freedom of opinion, which must not be used as a pretext to infringe on the culture and privacy of societies, and added that the respect for this cultural uniqueness is a fundamental human right that must be upheld at all times and everywhere.
