Arab League Hosts Forum Highlighting Palestinian Prisoners’ Plight

The Arab League held a special forum on Tuesday, to address the worsening conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention, reaffirming the organization’s long-standing commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause. The event, organized by the League’s Department of Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories, was convened at the request of the Permanent Mission of the State of Palestine.

The forum gathered representatives of member states, senior Arab League officials, Palestinian institutions, and prominent Palestinian figures. Assistant Secretary-General Dr. Faid Mustafa opened the event, emphasizing the urgent need to spotlight ongoing abuses, including torture, medical neglect, and denial of basic rights. According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority, more than 9,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons.

The program featured three main sessions, including testimonies from former detainees and a documentary illustrating prisoners’ suffering. Speakers also discussed the challenges faced by exiled detainees and reiterated calls for the release of administrative detainees and enhanced Arab diplomatic pressure.

The Palestinian Mission expressed gratitude to the Arab League, stressing that such initiatives are vital for strengthening regional and international awareness of prisoners’ conditions.
