Senior officials from Arab League member states convened Wednesday at the League’s headquarters in Cairo for a preparatory meeting of the Economic and Social Council ahead of its ministerial session scheduled for Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Leila Mokhtari of Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, with participation from Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Malki, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs. Al-Malki stressed the importance of strengthening joint Arab economic and social cooperation and praised Tunisia’s leadership of the previous session.
Officials reviewed draft resolutions prepared by economic and social committees and discussed key agenda items, including preparations for the 35th Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia, progress on the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the Arab Customs Union, and proposals such as an Arab ministerial council for artificial intelligence. Social development issues, women’s economic empowerment, and support for Palestinian social centers were also addressed.
