The Arab League on Wednesday strongly condemned the storming of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, accompanied by hundreds of Israeli settlers under police protection.
In a statement, the League said Ben-Gvir and about 270 settlers performed what it described as provocative Talmudic rituals inside the mosque’s courtyards, calling the move a grave violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo at the holy site.
The League also denounced Israeli forces for raiding a UN-run health center in East Jerusalem operated by the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, and ordering its closure. It said the move violates U.N. resolutions and the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on Israel’s obligations toward U.N. agencies.
The Arab League urged the international community to take immediate action to halt the violations and protect Palestinian civilians and institutions.
