The General Secretariat of the Arab League stressed that the only real way to achieve stability and peace in the Middle East is through settling the Palestinian issue and implementing the internationally agreed-upon two-state solution, and establishing the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stressing that attempts to uproot the Palestinian people from their land are unacceptable and in violation of international law.
The Arab League also stressed - in a statement, Sunday - that circumventing these principles and determinants, which enjoy Arab and international consensus, will only prolong the conflict and make peace more distant, which will increase the suffering of the peoples of the region, especially the Palestinian people.
The General Secretariat stressed in this regard that the just Palestinian cause is a cause of land and people, and that attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land, through displacement, annexation or settlement expansion, have proven to have failed in the past, and are rejected and in violation of international law, as the forced displacement and expulsion of people from their land can only be called ethnic cleansing.
It stressed that the current stage requires continuous work from everyone to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure its continuation, in preparation for immediately starting the reconstruction of Gaza and healing the wounds of its people who were subjected to 15 months of brutal war, and the infrastructure of the Strip was exposed to unprecedented destruction in the history of modern wars.
The General Secretariat called on all countries, who believe in the two-state solution as a way to peace, to work diligently and immediately to start a credible path to reach this solution, and implement it on the ground as soon as possible, considering that this solution is what guarantees the achievement of security and peace for the Palestinians, Israelis and all peoples of the region and the world.
