Arab justice and interior experts convened Wednesday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo for the 12th meeting of the Joint Committee of Experts and Representatives of Justice and Interior Ministries to review the draft “Arab Convention on Refugee Status in Arab States.”
The meeting, chaired by Faisal Hazaa, representative of Yemen’s Ministry of Justice, was organized by the Legal Affairs Department, which serves as the technical secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Maha Bakhit, Minister Plenipotentiary and Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Arab League, said the two-day meeting comes in implementation of the resolution adopted by the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice during its 40th session on Nov. 28, 2024.
Bakhit added that discussions will focus on comments submitted by both Jordan and Syria regarding the draft convention.
Experts and representatives from Arab justice and interior ministries, along with other concerned agencies, are participating in the meeting, which will continue reviewing the articles of the draft convention in preparation for presenting its findings and recommendations to the next session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice, scheduled for November 2025.
