Mohammed Ali Al Shuhhi, chair of the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee at the League of Arab States, announced the launch of a “simplified procedure” aimed at helping member states submit periodic human rights reports more efficiently.
Speaking during a meeting of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights, Al Shahi said the new mechanism allows countries to consolidate several years of reporting into a concise, focused document addressing key recommendations and priority questions instead of lengthy general reports.
He stressed that the simplified procedure is optional and designed to encourage more regular reporting and stronger follow-up on commitments. The committee will continue providing technical, logistical and training support to member states, particularly those that have not yet submitted reports.
According to Al Shuhhi, 18 Arab countries are currently parties to the Arab Charter on Human Rights, with hopes that the remaining states will join in the near future to strengthen regional human rights cooperation.
