Actress and former UN Special Envoy for Refugees Angelina Jolie praised Egypt’s efforts to receive, store, and deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing that the enclave remains in urgent need of additional assistance.
Jolie made the remarks on Friday during a visit to the Egyptian Red Crescent’s logistical warehouses in El Arish, as part of her second tour of North Sinai Governorate.
During the visit, Jolie was accompanied by Arooj Jhaier, a representative of the U.S. State Department, in the presence of North Sinai Governor Khaled Mogawer, Nabila Makram, former Minister of State for Emigration and current head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, and Khaled Zayed, head of the Egyptian Red Crescent branch in North Sinai.
Jolie and the accompanying delegation received a detailed briefing from Egyptian Red Crescent officials on the mechanisms for receiving, storing, coding, and dispatching humanitarian and relief aid destined for Gaza.
North Sinai Governor Khaled Mogawer said that humanitarian aid reaches the governorate through three main routes, include Land, via truck convoys, Sea, through maritime shipments, and Air, as well as via cargo flights.
These supplies are then processed and prepared before being sent onward to Gaza.
Earlier in her visit, Jolie toured the Rafah border crossing on the Egyptian side to review the humanitarian situation and observe Egypt’s efforts to facilitate the entry of aid into Gaza.
Egypt has played a central logistical role in coordinating international humanitarian assistance to Gaza amid ongoing regional tensions, with El Arish serving as a key hub for relief operations.
