Syria's representative to the United Nations, Bashar Al-Jaafari, accused Turkey of forcing displacement, 'Turkification' and stealing in the areas it occupies.

Al-Jaafari also stressed the importance of the success of the Constitutional Committee, "which requires respecting the rules of its procedures that have been agreed upon, including not allowing any external interference or pressures to hinder its work."

The Syrian representative called for support for the conference that will be held in Damascus on the tenth of next month for the return of the refugees, noting that some countries seek to obstruct the return of refugees by placing a veto on reconstruction and imposing political conditions on humanitarian activities in Syria.

He said: "I inform you of the Syrian government's decision to hold an international conference on refugees in Damascus, on the eleventh and twelfth of next month, and participation in this conference will be available, whether by attending personally or virtually, to representatives of the Member States and the United Nations and its specialized agencies."

''Syria launched the initiative in 2017 for the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons, and our request at that time from the international community and the United Nations to support the return process and create a suitable environment for those who will return," he added.

He accused Turkey of exploiting the refugee issue to blackmail Europe, stressing that the Turkish encroachment on Syrian lands will not change the legal reality of the lands occupied by Ankara.

He stated that "We have repeatedly called on this Council to hold the Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan regime accountable for its violations of international law, the provisions of the United Nations Charter, Security Council resolutions and its treaty obligations, and for crimes against humanity that it has committed against my country."

He also added: "The Turkish regime has disavowed its obligations and commitments according to the outcomes of the Astana meetings and Sochi understandings regarding the Idlib region, and has built the so-called separation wall on parts of our lands and manipulated the fixed stones of the temporary fixing stones for our common borders, and we confirm that the crimes of the Turkish occupation will not lead in any way to Violating the legal and sovereign rights of Syria."
